The Hertie School of Governance’s Gender Equality and Sexuality (GES) Club is proud to announce that the third “Cracking the Ceiling Conference” will take place on April 6, 2019. This year’s topic is: “Policy Making in the Era of Intersectionality”. It is organized in close cooperation with the Hertie Gender Equality Network of the fellows&friends program of the Hertie foundation and open to participants from all over the world.
The current state of world politics, namely the rise of the far-right, brings a sense of urgency to protect and promote the rights of minorities. We believe it is necessary to create a space to discuss not only gender inequality but also intersectional discrimination. Intersectionality considers different systems of oppression, and specifically how they overlap and are compounded. Intersectionality comprehends various intertwined characteristics, such as class, race, sexual orientation, gender, age, disability, among others. The Conference will mainly touch upon the gender, race and sexual orientation perspectives of intersectionality.
As the next generation of policymakers, we want to discuss innovative and implementable solutions and ideas with interested individuals and professionals of different backgrounds and from a wide range of fields. Join us on April 6th for inspiring speeches, panel discussions and interactive workshops with high ranking academics and practitioners. More information will follow soon.
