Climate change and information integrity: Countering disinformation in Germany through quality media?

Climate change is not only an environmental crisis but also increasingly a threat to the economic and social foundations of modern societies. While public support for stronger climate action is growing, political progress is under pressure. Disinformation has emerged as a powerful tool to disrupt constructive debate, polarise societies, and interfere in democratic processes. In today’s fragmented media landscape, where algorithms often prioritise engagement over accuracy, journalists have to counter false narratives with ever more limited resources.

At the 2024 G20 summit, Brazil, UNESCO, and the United Nations launched a ‘Global Initiative for Information Integrity on Climate Change‘, whose formal declaration was later signed by more than 20 states, including the European Union and Germany.

This event brings together experts and stakeholders to kickstart the German dialogue and help launch its National Chapter.
