Fueled by recent geoeconomic shocks, the global trading system is currently experiencing a massive transformation. While the COVID-19 pandemic has closed factories and upended supply chains, Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has disrupted food and energy supply around the world. These shocks have had an asymmetrical impact across countries: In contrast to manufacturing powerhouses like China, service trade-heavy economies such as India’s have managed comparatively well. Still, Delhi needs to address a host of domestic and international challenges to truly seize the initiative in this evolving trade environment.
