In his latest book, DSI Director Ben Tallis assembles a collection of his best recent essays on European security. He charts how, why, and when Germany’s much-discussed ‘Zeitenwende’ – or ‘sea change’ in security policy – ultimately failed, leaving the country in urgent need of real change.
Yet, as Turning Point shows, a real transformation in European security has happened – beyond Germany, in Poland, the Baltics and Nordics, the Netherlands and even in parts of the EU’s institutions. With leadership now coming from other parts of Europe – Germany’s previously assumed primacy in European geopolitics is not only no longer guaranteed, but whoever wins the next election in Berlin will be playing catch-up to prevent their country getting left behind.
At this event, organised by the Democratic Strategy Initiative, Dr. Tallis and special guests discuss the book and how best to move beyond diagnosing the problem of Zeitenwende’s failure – to setting the strategy that Germany and Europe ultimately need to ensure Europe’s security, prosperity and freedom.
