Iran is facing its most intense crisis since the 1979 revolution. Nationwide anti-regime protests that began in late 2025 have been met with brutal crackdowns, mass arrests, and a near-total communications blackout, resulting in tens of thousands of deaths and widespread repression. Externally, tensions remain high over Iran’s nuclear and missile programmes as well as its regional role, and military strikes by the United States could be imminent. Are we witnessing the end of the Islamic Republic of Iran?
