Join us for an Italo‑German dialogue on Europe’s security and competitiveness with Italian Senator Carlo Calenda, drawing on his experience as former Italian Minister for Industry and Economic Development, Permanent Representative to the EU, and Member of the European Parliament.
On 4 May, Carlo Calenda will join Nils Redeker, Co‑Director of the Jacques Delors Centre, at the Hertie School to discuss Europe’s industrial and security policy agenda from Italian, German and European perspectives.
The discussion will address key questions:
- How can the EU boost competitiveness through instruments such as the Industrial Accelerator Act and the Draghi Agenda?
- What role should industrial policy play in achieving decarbonisation under the Clean Industrial Deal?
- How can defence industrial policy and dual‑use technologies strengthen Europe’s security, particularly in light of Russia’s war against Ukraine?
- Should EU decision‑making and ESG standards be simplified to reduce regulatory burdens?
The panel will be held in English and followed by a reception, offering the opportunity for informal exchange with speakers and participants.
